Friends of Newbald School (FONS) is a registered charity whose main purpose is to raise money for Newbald Primary School. Our logo was designed by Hollie Platten in 2014, we believe we provide opportunities for pupils, staff, parents and Friends of Newbald School to meet and socialise, at the same time as raising vital funds for the school.
Following on from our Annual General Meeting held in September this year the committee is as follows:
FONS Committee Members
Laura Cameron Chair
Sally Simpson Vice Chair
Leanne Wood Treasurer
Helen Todd Secretary
Morag Sinclair Headteacher
General Committee Team
Kathryn Connolly Gemma Wallace
Alison Dunham Sarah Normanton
Vanessa Thurlow Angie McKinney
Lucy Rook Jo Humble
Nicola Russell Robyn Mountain-Wade
Deborah Shooter (also undertaking Marketing Role)
We are all part of a big team and everyone has varied skills and jobs. Without each and every one of us, events wouldn't be possible, or as enjoyable!
Annually FONS raises money for school via key events: the Halloween Disco, New Year’s Day Duck Race and the Easter Egg Hunt.
However we like to keep it new and interesting so we welcome ideas and suggestions of ways to keep it fresh and energised. Please if you have any suggestions leave a message for the FONs committee with the school office and we'll see what we can do.
Last year we raised in excess of £ 2,600 !!!
We have teamed up with MyName Tags who provide name labels specifically with school items in mind. By logging on direct to their website at www.MyNametags.com by quoting our School ID 25282 any commission is paid direct to FONS helping raise additional money for school.
Spending the Money
When considering a funding request we always try to make sure the money is distributed evenly. We especially like the requests that make the children's learning experience in school special. All requests are considered carefully by the committee. We work incredibly hard to raise the money, it's worth it when we can provide things for the pupils they wouldn't necessarily get provided by the normal constraints of school budgets.
We have used some of the money to pay for beanbags for the quiet reading areas in school, revamped and supplied items for the new science lab and we are also paying to ensure that all the children benefit from a pantomime visit.
